The Durham Public Works department strives to provide the residents of Durham a safe and clean environment. Our department’s active crew is responsible for over 60 miles of roadways, parking lots and sidewalks for town-owned buildings, including the Town Hall, Library, Ambulance, and Fire House.
Duties:
- Maintain Durham’s recreational complexes, Allen Brook Park, Town Green, baseball fields, etc.
- Responsible for all aspects of road maintenance.
- Remove the snow in the winter and sweep the residual sand in the spring.
- Maintain the roadside to provide a safe sight line including the removal of dead and diseased trees.
- Fill pot holes and crack seals or pave road as required. Some of our older roads have been reconstructed in the last few years.
When summer approaches you will see our crew out repairing winter damage done to roads and residential property, street sweeping and mowing. In addition to taking care of all of these things, the public works department is also on call 24/7 for whatever acute road/town emergency arises, including downed trees, collapsed roads, and snow removal. Because the town owns the majority of the equipment necessary to maintain the roads we do not have to rely on outside contractors.
The residents of Durham are our eyes and we rely on your input all year long. We want to know about any problems or concerns that you see or experience. We will make every effort to correct it as soon as possible. Please submit a citizens service request which will notify us of your concern.
