Transfer Station

 

DMIAAB: Durham Middlefield Interlocal Agreement

The transfer station is for the residents of Durham and Middlefield. Located on Cherry Hill Road, at the intersection of Route 147. Site users are required to provide proof of residency and purchase a sticker ($50) that must be affixed to windshield of vehicle brought to the facility. Stickers are to be purchased at the transfer station.

In general, if a holiday falls on a Sunday, the Transfer Station will be closed the Monday following and reopen on Tuesday (regular hours).
In addition, if Christmas and New Year's fall on a Sunday, the Transfer Station will be open half-day the Saturday before.

Demolition Materials: $0.07 per pound
Painted Wood: $0.07 per pound
Scrap Lumber: $0.07 per pound
Appliances With Freon: $10.00 each
Tires (Standard Only): $5.00 each
Padded Furniture: $10.00 each
Mattress/Box spring: $10.00 each
Toilet: $5.00 each
Sinks: $3.00 each

 

Station Permit

In order to purchase an annual DMIAAB Transfer Station Permit the following is required:
1. Proof of Residency in Durham or Middlefield must be verified by a valid Drivers License
2. Automobile Registration must verify that the vehicle to which the transfer station permit is affixed is registered in Durham or Middlefield
3. All Transfer Station Permits Expire July 1st

 

What can I Bring?

Regular Household Garbage: all paper (newspaper, cardboard, office paper), bottle and cans including plastics #1 - #7 without additional fees.
Electronics Recycling: No Fee
Brush: up to 4" in diameter and not longer than 8' in length.
Leaves: must be emptied from bags in designated area.
Scrap metal: items must be drained of any oil or gasoline

 

What Shouldn't I Bring?

No hazardous wastes such as lead based paint, asbestos or pesticides should be brought to the facility.
These items may be disposed of at Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days set up in the area throughout the late spring and summer.
No wood larger than 4" in diameter may be disposed of at the facility.
No clean fill (rocks, concrete, dirt etc.) can be disposed of at the site

 

DMIAAB Subsidized Composters Available

In an effort to reduce the amount of solid waste from our communities, DMIIAB underwrites a composter program at a significantly discounted purchase price for residents of Durham and Middlefield. We have both food digesters and traditional composters available. Residents may purchase Earth Machine Composters for $30 and Green Cone food digesters for $60. These prices are 50% below the retail cost. Supplies are limited. To make arrangements for purchase, please contact the Transfer Station at 860-349-8702.

Waste Haulers/Collector Station Hours

 Commercial waste collectors of residential waste from Durham and Middlefield including MSW and all recyclables must be delivered and unloaded between the hours of 6:45 AM to 7:45 AM on Monday and Thursday, or the hours of 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday subject to a delivery schedule approved by DMIAAB. Commercial waste collector vehicles must be restricted to 20 yards or less.
