Passport Update
The US Department of State has announced that the backlog of passport applications has been cleared. As of September 12, 2007, the processing of passport applications will take 6-8 weeks for routine delivery and 3 weeks for expedited delivery.
The flexible accommodation program that has allowed US Citizens to travel by air to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and countries in the Carribbean with “Official Proof of a Passport Application” plus government issued identification will expire September 30, 2007. Effective October 1, 2007, all US Citizens traveling by air to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Carribean countries must present a passport to enter or depart from the United States. US Citizens who departed the country under this travel accommodation prior to October 1, 2007 Department of State “Official Proof of a Passport Application” plus government issued identification will be readmitted with these same documents if returning to the United States after September 30, 2007.
